I was digging through online fashion magazine looking something on fashion jewelry and purses, and I found a great article. I ended up at ELLE edits online fashion magazine (link below). The purpose of the article was to introduce the reader to the top 72 jewelry manufacturers in the world.Mom introduced me to fashion a lining time ago, and as time passed I realized that quality and value were inherent to the meaning of fashion.
As the fashions changed, they found came and went, but they were some that were always there. Those were the fashion pieces of that time, those collection pieces or family heirlooms, was one of my takeaways of the article. The heirloom in life will be a chain that I have worn around my neck since I was about 16. Obviously it’s not the same chain, but over the years something has be there. It’s not the value in it’s the memory of me and what it meant to me. (creepy)
The first company mentioned was Missoma that featured stackable bracelets. Pandora was shortly after; all beautiful 18K gold filled pieces. Back in the day, plating technology would never work well for heirloom if it was worm. . Time and wear would not allow it to last a lifetime.
Stackable rings, stackable earrings, stackable bracelets seemed to be part of every collection. “Chunky” is back, as they call it now in jewelry fashion. Those bold and pieces made of alternative metals mixed with alternative gemstones stones. Silver has made its mark in fashion at a reasonable price
Something that surprised me was “Recycled Jewelry” making an appearance. when I first heard the term, I didn’t know what to think, but fashion is mostly presentation. When I first learned how to cast jewelry we would melt a small crucible of metal and pour it over rock salt and let it cool. It can produce some interesting shapes. Their process is similar.
Of course Chanel, Dior, Gucci and the like were there representing and promoting that brand of the industry. Lastly I can’t finishing without mentioning De Beers representing diamonds. I have had the pleasure of setting some very beautiful and unique diamonds in my lifetime and each of them and I got so much honor presenting that piece knowing that is a family heirloom. It may or may not be expensive as a house, but these pieces have a lot of value than you know.
